Petru Munteanu

Petru Munteanu studied in Bucharest with Prof. G. Manoliu (student of Enescu) and also completed master classes with J. Jankelevitsch (Moscow) and Michael Weiman (St. Petersburg).

After working at the conservatory and as a director of the special school for music in Bucharest, Petru Munteanu taught at the University of Music Lübeck since 1970, and at the University of Music Hamburg. In 1994, he received a call to the newly founded University of Music and Drama Rostock. Concert activity and numerous publications and lectures made him known at home and abroad. He has given master classes in many countries at the invitation of various universities in Russia, in Ukraine, in China, in the USA, in Spain, in Poland, in Romania, in the Czech Republic, in Switzerland, etc.

Petru Munteanu is the initiator and Artistic Head of the International Violin Competition and International Master Classes for strings in Kloster Schöntal. His students are members of the best German orchestras (for example Hamburger and Berliner Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, etc.). Many have won prizes at national and international competitions (for example, Brussel 2001). He is a jury member at many major international competitions such as "Bach" (Leipzig), "Enescu" (Bucharest), "Tchaikovsky" (Moscow), "Premio Paganini" (Genoa), "Queen Elisabeth" (Brussels) etc.
